Internship Program

Position Description:

Serves as an unpaid volunteer intern with the Center for the Study of Weapons of Mass Destruction (CSWMD), National Defense University. The intern is selected by members of the WMD Center Research Staff after a review of the application materials and a phone or in-person interview.

The intern will be assigned to a member of the WMD Center Research Staff, whose work he/she will support. The intern will be responsible for supporting ongoing research efforts, fulfilling administrative duties, and assisting with WMD Center events. Research activities may include gathering data and information from written sources, interviews, and event attendance; producing written summaries and analysis of information gathered; and briefing WMD Center staff regarding research findings. Administrative and event support activities include assisting in the planning, organizing, and management of WMD Center events (exercises, conferences, symposia, roundtables, and workshops), as well as other special occasions; providing support to WMD Center academic programs; and assisting with Center operations.

Qualifications:

All currently enrolled or recently graduated students at the undergraduate and graduate levels are encouraged to apply.

Qualified candidates are expected to have superior research and writing skills and a working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite. Academic or professional experience in WMD-related issues, international security, foreign policy, or a regional interest in Asia, the Middle East, or Europe is desirable, but not required.

Candidates selected for internships must pass a background check before beginning their work.
