Portia Howard

Research Trainee

Portia Howard is a Student Trainee at the National Defense University’s Center for the Study of Weapons of Mass Destruction (CSWMD) in Washington, D.C. Prior to this role, she served as an Administrative Intern at the Federal Aviation Administration, where she collaborated on recruitment actions, employee recognition initiatives, and various human resource projects.

Portia holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Maryland Global Campus and is currently pursuing her Master’s in Industrial-Organizational Psychology at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

In addition to her academic and professional experience, Portia brings over seven years of expertise in administrative support through her current role as a 92Y Supply Specialist in the Army National Guard. Her military service also includes experience as a Protocol Specialist in Djibouti, Africa, where she streamlined administrative processes for diplomatic engagements, demonstrating her strong organizational and leadership skills in complex environments.

In her free time, Portia enjoys traveling, reading, and staying active with regular workouts. She is also deeply committed to giving back to her community through volunteer work. Her passion for new experiences and exploration continually motivates her to broaden her horizons, both personally and professionally.
