The National Defense University’s Center for the Study of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) held its 2021 Annual WMD Symposium, WMD Policy and Strategy Under the Biden Administration, on 16-17 June.
This year’s symposium focused on how the WMD landscape has changed in recent years, will continue to change, and the new administration’s approach to addressing key challenges and issues. Senior officials and experts discussed administration priorities, alliances and partnerships, challenges and successes, and approaches to geopolitical relationships in a changing world. Issues addressed included nuclear weapons policy, chemical weapons use, arms control and nonproliferation, biodefense, emerging technologies, and requirements, plans, concepts, and capabilities for countering WMD.
