On February 4th, 2016 the Center for the Study of Weapons of Mass Destruction (CSWMD) hosted a Spotlight Seminar featuring Assistant Secretary of State Thomas M. Countryman. The seminar, "After the Iran Deal: The Future of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Regime," covered the nuclear agreement with Iran as principally a nonproliferation accord that, if fully implemented, will effectively close Iran's main pathways to a nuclear weapon for at least the next decade. The seminar also explored how the nuclear agreement will also have far-reaching strategic consequences affecting the probability of future proliferation and regional security risks in an increasingly unstable Middle East. The seminar featured a presentation by Mr. Countryman and an engaging discussion with the approximately 60 experts, faculty, and students in attendance.
